The uxerhub alternative to Canditech, for product roles

By Sergio Gualda · 6 min read · Updated

Canditech is a skills assessment platform built on job simulations: its site describes tailor-made simulations plus 500+ pre-built assessments, one-way video interviews, AI auto-scoring and integrations with 40+ ATS tools, covering engineering, data, marketing, sales, HR, finance, healthcare and support. uxerhub covers six product roles and measures one thing — how someone decides when the constraint changes. The philosophies are closer than any other pair on this list: both of us think you should watch someone work rather than quiz them. The difference is that a simulation asks the candidate to produce the work, and we ask them what they would do and why, which costs fifteen minutes instead of an afternoon.

What Canditech does better

Simulation is the stronger method when you can afford it, and Canditech is right to lead with it. Watching someone actually do a representative task tells you things no written answer can — how they structure work, what they consider finished, where they get stuck. If the role has a task you can simulate cleanly, that is better evidence than ours.

Breadth across functions, which we do not have at all. Engineering, data, marketing, sales, HR, finance, healthcare and support, with 500+ pre-built assessments as a starting point. One platform for a whole company is worth more to most buyers than one instrument for six roles.

Its position on candidates using AI is, in our view, the correct one and ahead of most of the industry: rather than only trying to detect it, Canditech lets candidates use tools like ChatGPT and Claude inside the assessment to see how well they use them. That is where hiring is going and they got there first.

And it has the operational layer we lack — 40+ ATS integrations, custom branding, chatbot screening.

Side by side

Everything in the Canditech column comes from their own public site. Where they do not publish something, this says so rather than guessing.

Which one you should pick

Choose Canditech if

  • The role has a representative task you can simulate cleanly, and candidates will spend the time.
  • You hire across many functions and want one platform for all of them.
  • You want to see how candidates use AI tools on real work.
  • You need ATS integration, branding and chatbot screening in the same product.

Choose uxerhub if

  • Your open roles are product roles, and the shortlist decision is genuinely hard.
  • You are not willing to ask fifteen candidates for an afternoon of unpaid work.
  • Two people on your team disagree about what this particular job needs.
  • You want to try it on one real candidate without a subscription or a call.

Where a simulation stops being available to you

Simulation is the better method and we would say so to a customer's face. The problem is not accuracy, it is what it costs to get it — and the cost is paid by the candidate, in unpaid hours, before anyone has decided they are worth interviewing.

That is affordable at the end of a funnel, on two or three finalists. It is not affordable at the top, on the twelve applications that arrived this week, which is exactly where the decision is hardest and where most teams currently substitute a CV and a portfolio skim.

uxerhub is built for that step. Fifteen minutes is small enough to ask of everyone, which means the comparison covers the whole pool instead of the three people who already looked promising — and the people who look unpromising on paper are precisely who a screening instrument exists to catch.

If you can simulate the job and your candidates will do it, do that. Use us before it, or where you cannot.

What we do not claim

We are not calibrated yet. The instrument is built and the scoring is deterministic, but we have not run enough hires through it to publish predictive validity, and we say so on our own site.

We also cannot tell you whether someone can do the work. A written situation measures the decision, not the execution, and anyone who tells you a fifteen-minute instrument measures craft is selling you something. That is what a portfolio, a work sample or a Canditech simulation is for.

Frequently asked

Is a job simulation better than a situational judgment test?
For predicting performance, the evidence generally favours work samples and simulations, and we would not argue otherwise. The trade-off is coverage: a simulation costs the candidate hours, so in practice it gets used on a shortlist of two or three. A fifteen-minute instrument can be given to everyone, which is where the decision is actually hardest. The two answer different points in the funnel.
Does uxerhub detect whether a candidate used AI?
We do not try to. The situations are written so that a fluent, generic answer scores in the middle: the points are in committing to one option under a named constraint and saying what you give up, which is the part a model averages away. Canditech's approach — letting candidates use AI and watching how — is a different and defensible answer to the same problem.
Do candidates record video for uxerhub?
No. Nothing is recorded, and there is no camera and no proctoring. The assessment is written, taken whenever suits the candidate, and the candidate keeps their own report.
How much does uxerhub cost compared to Canditech?
Canditech does not publish rates on its homepage and routes you to pricing or a demo. uxerhub publishes its full pricing: the first candidate is free, then credit packs at $89 for 5 candidates, $290 for 20 and $690 for 60. Credits never expire and candidates never pay.
